The nicest club in Somerset – that is the complement paid to us by many visitors through the years during inter-club matches or North Somerset League and open tournaments which we stage, and we like to think it is true. We are proud of our facilities – six all-weather courts including four with floodlights, and a comfortable club house including a lounge, kitchen and changing rooms with showers – and our beautiful location.
We moved in 1988 to our present green-field site close to Winscombe cricket, football and rugby club, but our history goes back to the 1950s when the club was formed by the amalgamation of two smaller ones. The original courts behind the Woodborough Hotel were built mostly by volunteers but in 1988 when maintenance became too difficult and costly a decision was made to sell the land and relocate to our present position.
The club has actively supported the North Somerset League since its inception and now enters a number of men’s, ladies’ and mixed teams in the summer and winter leagues. As well as staging very popular tournaments for the league, we organise a number of internal competitions for members.
Using LTA coaches from the local DC Coaching organisation there are regular weekly sessions for grown-ups and youngsters of all ages. There are club playing sessions for all standards most days and evenings, and special concessions are available for potential new members.
